'A Working-class and Enlightened City: History of Barcelona, 18th-19th Centuries' Cultural Workshop *NEW*

Teacher: Pere Cowley. One August morning in 1854, an enthusiastic crowd began demolishing Barcelona's city wall. The people of Barcelona had been waiting many years for that moment. Construction of a new Eixample was beginning. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Barcelona experienced crises, change and revolutions and, above all, an unlimited faith in progress. We will discover this city made up of many cities: that of Enlightenment thinkers and the last hand weavers, of rebellious women and radical liberals, wealthy widows and indianos, bandits and women workers. A social mosaic full of fascinating and contradictory stories that witnessed the birth of a new city.
