"Alba Pujals: ‘Sincretisme’" Concert
15 May 2027
Sala 2 Oriol Martorell, el Fort Pienc, Eixample
Artists: Alba Pujals, trombone, vocals and direction; Oriol Vallès, trumpet; Joan Monné, piano; Giuseppe Campisi, double bass; Andreu Pitarch, drums. Programme. Trained in Europe and the United States, the Terrassa-born trombonist takes a step towards maturity with Sincretisme, her second release after debuting with Apologia. On this latest album she also grows in personality and aesthetic decision-making, leaving behind the debt to traditional rules heard on the first album. Linked to the Barcelona collective The Changes, with which she has released both albums, and a member of The Bop Collective —led by Irene Reig—, Alba Pujals decided that evolving meant making music that was more instinctive and intuitive, less analytical and freer from orthodox jazz tradition. There is plenty of modern jazz in her sound, but the trombonist does not shy away from pop-oriented pieces or from mixing styles without overthinking it, while also reminding herself that her life and her world are in Catalonia. She does not forget Mary Lou Williams, but embraces Maria del Mar Bonet.
Part of the programme: Jazz Marathon. Marató de Jazz: 4 activities in Barcelona on May 15. All free.
