'Anthropology and World Cultures: The American School' Cultural Workshop *NEW*

30 September 2026 – 2 December 2026 · 09:30

Centre Cultural La Casa Elizalde, la Dreta de l'Eixample, Eixample

Teacher: José Mansilla. Although late-19th-century American anthropology has a clear founding father in Franz Boas, as well as a more cultural than social view of the discipline, his students Margaret Mead and Ruth Benedict introduced major changes to the country's anthropological school. Their principal contributions concern psychological elements and the eventual establishment of a social science linked to public service. These and other issues will be explored throughout the workshop.
