The French Revolution is the historical milestone that would change perceptions of power, sovereignty and politics forever, becoming the central stage of a period in which concepts such as modernity, citizenship and progress were realised in history. Faced with upheavals such as bourgeois revolutions, Napoleonic invasions and wars of independence, the art world would not remain untouched, moving from court to salons, from Baroque to Romanticism, from Neoclassicism to social realism… Understanding a period as important as this is fundamental to understanding the world we live in today.
