'Banda Municipal de Barcelona' Concert

Show title: La Banda a la Mercè. Lletres al vent. Symphonic music – Barcelona. Plaça Major de Nou Barris becomes an epicentre of Catalan music with the Lletres al vent festival. Under the direction of José R. Pascual-Vilaplana, Banda Municipal de Barcelona will perform pieces from the classical repertoire and contemporary creations. For example, Bernat Vivancos's Sardana dels Segadors, which updates the national dance with modern sonorities, can be heard for the first time in its band arrangement. This will be followed by Suite Furera, a recent work by Barcelona composer Marc Migó, one of the most sought-after young composers on the national and international circuit. The programme is completed by Joaquín Rodrigo's symphonic poem Per la flor del lliri blau, inspired by a Valencian legend, and Yasuhide Ito's Peace, Peace, so Sing the Birds, a tribute to Pau Casals. The Catalan musician's sardana Sant Martí del Canigó will also be heard, alongside his brother Enric's sardana Heroica, composed more than two decades earlier. A programme that lets music take flight in the open air.
