'Baschet Instruments. The Resonant Utopia' Exhibition

Exhibition opening: 17 April at 19:00, with Martí Ruiz and Jordi Casadevall, curators and members of the Taller d'Escultura Sonora Baschet at the Facultat de Belles Arts de la Universitat de Barcelona, and Jordi Alomar, director of Museu de la Música. The opening will include a short musical intervention using a multi-timbral Baschet sculpture. Museu de la Música presents an exhibition devoted to the creative universe of Bernard (1917–2015) and François Baschet (1920–2014), two artists and inventors who, from the 1950s onwards, proposed a new way of understanding the musical instrument. Their contribution took the form of a series of inventions they called sound sculptures, built from industrial and everyday materials such as stainless steel, aluminium, cardboard and inflatable cushions, and capable of producing complex and unusual sounds without electricity. The result of an approach combining art and science, intuition and method, the Baschet universe developed a distinctive investigation into the relationships between form, matter and sound.
