"#BCNVaga1976: The Night of the Municipal Workers" Exhibition

50 years since the first strike by Ajuntament de Barcelona workers during Spain's Transition to democracy. An exhibition devoted to the first strike by municipal staff during the democratic Transition. That pioneering 1976 strike demanded recognition of the rights to assembly, union membership and strike action in the public sector; recognition of the full workforce, including precarious and often invisible staff; and the transformation of the Franco-era city council into a democratic, transparent institution serving society. Using photographs, newspaper archives, graphics and trade-union documents, among other materials, the exhibition places the February 1976 municipal conflict within the broader context of the Transition and social struggles for democratic freedoms. The exhibition is produced by Ajuntament de Barcelona and coordinated by Gerència de Serveis Generals and Direcció de Serveis del Sistema Municipal d'Arxius.
