A rereading of the oral tradition of the island of Bioko, reflecting on the colonial gaze and the legend of the first Black Madonna in Catalonia In 1967 the sculpture of the Virgin Mary of Bisila, the first Black Madonna, was erected on the summit of Basilé. Wewé is a Bubi teenager who, without knowing it, gives her face to this virgin sculpted by the Catalan artist Modest Gené. With false promises, Gené draws her into the brutal religious syncretisation of the figure of Bisila. When she realises, Wewé does everything in her power to return the figure of Bisila to her people so that she may be, once again, Mmë Bisila, the Bisila of Bihëi. La Fatal takes up this legend from the island of Bioko to reflect on the consequences of appropriating what does not belong to us. The sixty years that separate us from Wewé and Gené are no obstacle to our stories mirroring one another.
