'Brick' Exhibition

Totxana is an artwork inviting reflection on Barcelona's housing crisis. The sculpture, made from coloured bricks, symbolises the disintegration of the social fabric caused by excessive rent increases. Through a participatory experience, visitors move the bricks according to algorithmically generated instructions, simulating the forced displacement of residents. Each movement contributes to the dispersal of the work, reflecting how thousands of families are forced to break social ties and leave the neighbourhoods they have always lived in, with a serious impact on their quality of life. Born in Barcelona in 1987, the artist is a generative artist who creates art through code. His practice focuses on creating generative and deterministic algorithms that produce unique visuals each time they run. An architect trained at ETSAB (2012), he seeks to combine digital practice with sculpture made from materials typically used in construction. In both digital and hybrid pieces, interaction with and participation by the audience are a constant part of the work's formalisation.
