Concert at L’Auditori "Strauss’s Symphonia Domestica"

22 November 2026 · 11:00

Centre Cívic La Sedeta, el Camp d'en Grassot i Gràcia Nova, Gràcia

Robert Gerhard's Symphony No. 4 "New York" captures the dynamism and complexity of the American city through an innovative orchestral language full of contrasts. The work combines vibrant rhythms, surprising textures and introspective moments that, emerging from silence, sketch an urban landscape. The symphony reflects the Catalan composer's fascination with metropolitan life while positioning him as one of the most decisive creators of the 20th century, whom L'Auditori wishes to honour this year. The programme is completed by a work whose title already suggests a certain familiarity: Richard Strauss's Symphonia Domestica offers a delicate and detailed portrait of everyday life —inspired by episodes from his own life rather than heroes or legendary beings— combining humour, lyricism and subtle dramatic tensions. Each movement of this symphonic poem draws on Strauss's remarkable ability to turn simple situations into rich musical images, showing the balance between intimacy and theatricality that characterises his work. Repertoire. Robert Gerhard: Symphony No. 4 "New York". Richard Strauss: Symphonia Domestica, Op. 53. Artists. Edmon Colomer, conductor. OBC.
