'Counter-information: Video-Nou / Servei de Vídeo Comunitari. The Gesture of Filming. Video in the MACBA Collection' Exhibition

We present a new display from the MACBA Collection devoted to the presence of video, bringing together three moments and contexts of the moving image through three proposals: Counter-information: Video-Nou / Servei de Vídeo Comunitari, Echoes. Videos from the Fundació Han Nefkens donation and Pere Portabella: the committed gaze. These three initiatives form part of the same constellation of practices that understand video as a way of attending to reality: not simply recording it, but also activating gazes, presences and narratives often located at the margins of official history. In Counter-information: Video-Nou / Servei de Vídeo Comunitari, the audiovisual device therefore operates not only as a recording tool but as a situated, collective practice inseparable from the social contexts in which it emerges. This material captures social and political realities layered within a key moment of historical reconstruction and information accumulation, the early years of Spain's Transition, and reasserts them from a critical perspective.
