Courses and Workshops "The Divine Comedy, III: Paradise. Reading and Interpreting a Classic"

This interpretative and progressive reading of The Divine Comedy —which we will undertake in groups of cantos, in monthly sessions over two years— aims to explore the text by following the principal narrative lines, motifs and memorable characters that make it an immortal work of poetry, a literary monument whose expressive and intellectual power has magnificently withstood the passage of time. Nor is it only poetry in the strictly formal sense —linked tercets of hendecasyllables—, but also thought which, at the highest philosophical level, ranges with brilliant critical and innovative force across every field of knowledge: religion and history, society and customs, language and politics, economics and art in its concrete expressive forms —painting and music, for example, whose languages Dante knew perfectly—. Firmly rooted in the society and culture of its time —the end of the Middle Ages—, the work is also a projection into the future, so full is it of visionary or prophetic intuitions that reveal to posterity, that is, to us, values and utopias that remain relevant.
