Cycle "Saps què?" Talk: "Traditional Singing in Catalonia"

During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), the invasion of Catalonia by the enemy army led to the reorganisation of the most vulnerable population in areas of resistance and, among other initiatives and routes into exile, to the creation of children's colonies. Under the name of shelters, farm schools, children's homes and... In what situations did people sing in Catalonia? Who sang, and what did they sing? How has the act of singing changed alongside society? We will explore these questions through audiovisual examples and in dialogue with the memories and experiences of attendees. Led by Jaume Ayats Abella, Professor of Ethnomusicology at the UAB and former director of Museu de la Música de Barcelona.
