"Dear / D(ee)r girls" Exhibition

A photographic project that explores the construction of female identity from childhood through a personal experience: growing up in a predominantly male environment. From this comes a specific idea: rejection of the feminine does not arise from sexualisation or desire, but appears much earlier, in childhood. Rather than being defined on its own terms, masculinity is often constructed in opposition to the feminine, turning it into a synonym for weakness, ridicule or something to be mocked. The series is built from a personal archive, combining photographs taken since adolescence with recent images in a non-linear narrative that alternates memories, sensations and reconstructed recollections. Male figures predominate throughout the series, observing and seeming to judge those they look at. The female self, by contrast, remains absent until the end. The forest functions as a symbolic setting, a space of freedom and danger at the same time, where childhood games reveal small hierarchies of power. The title condenses this idea: dear (beloved) and deer are blended into a single word. This double meaning, together with the graphic element of the deer skull, symbolises the transition…
