Before becoming the great storytelling device of the 20th century, cinema was born with a scientific ambition: to analyse the movement and duration of the physical world. Jean Painlevé follows that tradition with images of animals and even inorganic matter that, through their abstraction, take on an unexpected poetic dimension.
