"ELPIS (or a Nativity Scene for Today)" Performative Exhibition, by Irene Vicente Salas

30 December 2026 – 3 January 2027 · 19:30

Centre de les Arts Lliures, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera, Ciutat Vella

A living nativity scene is a series of scenes of latent waiting: waiting for a birth, waiting to make an offering, waiting for the arrival, waiting for the adoration, waiting for the blessing, waiting for a messiah… a whole people waiting for the great event. In Catalan, to wait and to hope share a root. What kind of waiting do we set in motion today? What does hopeful waiting look like at Christmas in Barcelona's Born neighbourhood? Who are the characters who represent this nativity scene today? Where would we place ourselves? ELPIS (or a Nativity Scene for Today) brings this tableau of living, active scenes up to date and places it in the most present-day here and now possible.
