"Ethan Iverson - Bill McHenry" Concert

I have admired Ethan Iverson and Bill McHenry for more than a quarter of a century. In fact, ever since I discovered them on Live at Smalls (Fresh Sound), with the magnificent Reid Anderson and Jeff Williams. Since then I have kept them in my personal drawer of unique and unpredictable inspirations. Above all, because they are creators who naturally avoid obvious solutions. McHenry, for example, has always steered clear of clichés (including obvious post-bop) with an originality free of extravagance and with no need to include anything strange. Iverson, meanwhile, always moves forward with a formal sparseness and deceptive simplicity capable of making the oldest tune sound radically modern. And together, when they enter into dialogue, they generate a conversation that transcends the showmanship of solos. Everything they do, at every moment, serves the music. I am dying to know the setlist. Firstly because of McHenry's particular skill with repertoire, with his highly distinctive personality, as enigmatic as it is entertaining.
