Exhibition 'El viatge invers: Un fresc sonor al romànic' by Ona Balló

For centuries, Romanesque mural paintings coexisted with the churches for which they had been created. Outside, the river, wind, herds, festivals and conversations in the square formed their soundtrack. Inside, silence, liturgy, incense and light moving across the walls generated a space for imagination and a counterpoint to the harshness of mountain life. This balance between the symbolic and rural worlds was broken when the paintings were removed. Separated from their natural surroundings, from that intangible heritage made of sounds and mystical sensations, the paintings were not only left without context but also lost their popular identity. El viatge invers invites visitors to discover the light and listen to the soundscapes that pass through some of these churches today. This present reveals the fragility of the architecture and the changes imposed by the seasons, but also the intimate links between each mural ensemble and its original atmosphere.
