We find ourselves inside an eye, a chamber opening onto the outside world and producing images. Yet within excessive light, within the offering of everything to the gaze, there is a radical scarcity. The organ is exhausted, like us. What would we need in order to see again? Freely recovering a fragment of a Renaissance painting, the exhibition proposes this possibility: if visionary faculties become extinct, we will need new eyes to sprout; we will need gestures that point a little beyond exhausted visions. Action is impossible without fantasy, they say; fantasy lies at the root of movement, and this is why we must persist in exercising the imagination. My work is an investigation into surfaces, into the imaginary folds of what we call reality. Stories and images emerge simultaneously with lived experience; they organise it, give it form and meaning, and allow it to circulate. Through sculptures, actions and audiovisual works, I explore these questions in both their sensory and narrative dimensions, mobilising, channelling and developing reserves of material and imaginary energy.
