Exhibition “The Printed Sky: Astronomy in the Biblioteca Arús Heritage Collection”

Biblioteca Arús presents a bibliographic exhibition devoted to astronomy based on a selection of works from its heritage collection. The exhibition brings together books, treatises and publications from the 17th to the 20th centuries that trace the evolution of the study of the sky, astronomical navigation, science communication and interest in the universe over time in Europe. It includes works by leading authors such as Galileo Galilei, Camille Flammarion, Eduard Fontserè and Josep Comas i Solà, among others, highlighting astronomy's presence in scientific, cultural and literary spheres. The exhibition also includes two globes dating from before 1900, one celestial and one terrestrial, which have formed part of the Library's decorative and symbolic elements since its opening. Through this exhibition, the Library aims to showcase a distinctive part of its collection and invite visitors to discover how humanity has observed, studied and imagined the heavens throughout history. The exhibition has been curated by Josep Maria Clavell de Dalmases, a Chemistry graduate from the Universitat de Barcelona and a regular collaborator with the Library.
