'Film Genres: The Western' Cultural Workshop *NEW*

28 September 2026 – 7 December 2026 · 11:30

Centre Cultural La Casa Elizalde, la Dreta de l'Eixample, Eixample

From its origins in the silent era, the Western has served as a major “foundational and mythical narrative” for a people with an exceptionally short history such as the United States. Initially conceived as an exercise in colonial propaganda, the genre would show a remarkable capacity for mutation, allowing it to reinvent itself through multiple variations and an endless succession of masterpieces. We will review its history in depth, from classic masters such as Ford and Hawks to the twilight Western and contemporary post-Western, addressing trends including pro-Indigenous and anti-colonial Westerns, pacifist, feminist, ecological, psychedelic and countercultural Westerns, the Euro-Western and more. Teacher: Enric Ros.
