'Frida Kahlo: Beyond the Icon' Workshop *NEW*

There comes a moment when an artist ceases to belong solely to art history and becomes something more: a symbol, a myth, a global image. For Frida Kahlo, that moment came very early, yet behind the icon there remain aspects that are often left in the shadows: her personal struggles, political commitment, deep social awareness and ability to transform the experience of pain into art. Frida constructed a multiple identity full of contrasts: Mexican and cosmopolitan, vulnerable and defiant, intimate and deeply political. Her work engages with the history of modern Mexico and with the avant-gardes of her time, while also escaping any simple classification. We will explore the events, ideas and contexts that shaped one of the most distinctive voices in 20th-century art. We will discover a visionary, complex and multifaceted woman: a creator who turned her image into an aesthetic and political declaration, and who knew how to intertwine identity, gender, nation, illness, love and revolution within her work. Through her paintings, diaries and photographs, we will approach the life and work of this extraordinary artist, whose work still speaks to us today. Teachers: Maria Concetta Marino…
