'Grans converses. Feixisme i (des)memòria' Conference
30 September 2026 · 18:00
Centre Cívic Casa Golferichs, la Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample, Eixample
In a context marked by the rise of new expressions of the far right, the normalisation of authoritarian discourse and disputes surrounding historical memory, this opening conference proposes a reflection on the relationships between fascism, democracy and collective memory. What remains today of the fascisms of the 20th century? How are their narratives constructed and transformed? What role do memory policies play in defending democratic values? What risks are involved in forgetting, distorting or instrumentalising the past? Opening conference with Jordi Mir, PhD in Humanities and author of the essay El nostre feixisme, and Xavier Casals, PhD in History and author of several studies on the far right. The presentation and moderation will be led by Xavier Menéndez, director general of Memòria Democràtica de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
