"Great Masters of the Italian Baroque" Course, by Sara Caredda

21 October 2026 – 4 November 2026 · 19:00

Museu Egipci de Barcelona, la Dreta de l'Eixample, Eixample

In the early 17th century a new style called "Baroque" was born in Rome, aiming to move beyond the Renaissance classicism that had dominated the art scene until then. The protagonists of this shift were a group of artists who created a revolutionary visual language based on dynamism, theatricality, abundant ornamentation and a constant desire to surprise the viewer. In three monographic sessions, the course will examine the features of the Baroque through the work of three of its "founding fathers": Gian Lorenzo Bernini in sculpture, Francesco Borromini in architecture and Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio in painting. Led by Sara Caredda, lecturer in the Art History Department, Universitat de Barcelona. Hybrid course: in person or online.
