In this course we will review the earliest episodes in the history of Catalonia: the period of Mediterranean Iberian cultures, the arrival of the Romans and the origins of the Catalan counties, periods in which the foundations for Catalonia's later history gradually took shape. This course is the first part of a four-course series examining the history of Catalonia from its origins in greater depth and detail in order to better understand the present. 1. Phoenician and Greek colonisation. 2. Iberian culture. 3. The Roman conquest. 4. Romanisation I. 5. Romanisation II. 6. The end of Roman rule. 7. Visigothic Catalonia. 8. The Muslim conquest. 9. Charlemagne and the creation of the Marca Hispanica. 10. The origins of the Catalan counties.
