'Just Like Life Itself' Exhibition, by Juan Miguel Morales

6 November 2026 – 28 November 2026 · 10:00

Oliva Artés. Museu d'Història de Barcelona, Provençals del Poblenou, Sant Martí

This exhibition invites us into the visual world of Juan Miguel Morales, a photographer whose hallmark is honesty and closeness. Through a careful selection of 40 black-and-white photographs, the show breaks down the boundaries between genres to reveal the thread running through all his work: a deep humanist sensitivity able to capture the soul, whether on stage, in a boxing ring or on the street. The exhibition is structured as a dialogue between different worlds. On one side is the field in which Morales has become an undisputed reference: music. With a section dedicated to Cuban trova, alongside intimate portraits of key figures such as Luis Eduardo Aute and Lluís Llach — plus a selection of other musicians — the photographer looks not for the idol but for the person, showing us the silence behind the song. But Morales's gaze goes far beyond music. The show takes us into diverse social and cultural realities, from the ancestral dignity of the Quechua people to the activism and visibility of the LGBTI community in the series Festa del Info-Gai. In these images the camera is a tool of respect and memory. Finally, the exhibition explores the tension, effort and magic of the body…
