The image handed down to us of painter Francisco de Goya is that of an angry, stubborn womaniser. It is a stereotype created in the late 19th century to match what people thought the Spanish character was or ought to be. In this course we will dismantle that cliché and discover an extraordinary artist capable of creating works ranging from the most delicate tenderness to the most forceful criticism. We will review his career in drawing, painting and printmaking, placing it in the historical, social and cultural context of his time. A journey through the life and work of a creator who marked a turning point in the history of art. Teacher: Jordi Garcia Banal.
