'Listening to Jazz with Ricard Gili: Images of Jazz II' Workshop

Jazz music has a very important visual component: the attitude of musicians while playing or encouraging fellow orchestra members as they perform, the presence of dancers on stage or on the dance floor, the jokes and touches of humour that often arise during a performance, the appearance and ways in which different audiences express themselves, and, importantly, the setting in which performances take place, whether a club, theatre, church or television studio. All these images are an invaluable complement to understanding and fully enjoying this jazz music that has conquered the whole world. In this course we will draw on scenes from films, filmed concerts, clips, shows and historic television programmes to present these images that speak and stimulate us through music.
