Madagascar, Living Malagasy is an ethnographic project showing the society and culture of the people of Madagascar. Eighteen ethnic groups, eighteen ways of being and living. An Asian spirit on African soil; flavours of vanilla and spices; coasts of rosewood and pirates; primary forests… Madagascar is the only place in the world where you can see the baobab "adansonia madagascariensis", the butterfly "chrysiridia madagascariensis" or the indri lemur. A true paradise for naturalists, a real Noah's ark. Separated from Africa 165 million years ago, Madagascar has kept the red earth of Asia, where part of its population came from, and inherited its rice paddies; so Madagascar is neither one nor the other: along the African coast and washed by the Indian Ocean, it has an original culture that makes it an "Afro-Asian" land. Eighteen ethnic groups share the territory of tropical forests, spiny deserts, white sand beaches, lakes and rock formations. This ethnic mosaic, formed over the centuries, has produced a genuinely Malagasy value system: rites linked to ancestor culture such as the return of the dead, African farming tools and words of Asian origin. All of this coexists in one…
