"Miguel Zenón and Luis Perdomo" Concert

11 November 2026 · 20:30

Fundació Conservatori del Liceu, el Raval, Ciutat Vella

At the end of August, the third instalment of El arte del bolero will be released, a series of duo recordings by Puerto Rican saxophonist Miguel Zenón and Venezuelan pianist Luis Perdomo, regular collaborators in Zenón's quartet. Zenón has already visited us on three occasions (the saxophonist has also appeared at the festival as special guest of Joey Calderazzo and the Barcelona Art Orchestra). Among the many glowing reviews of the first two albums, Raul Da Gama's words on the duo's prodigious interaction stand out, linking it to one of the peaks of Western musical creation: the German song tradition, the lied (Schubert, Schumann, Brahms…). “Imagine this as a classical lieder recording and you will find that this is the most perfect pairing of artists.” And so it is: in the hands of Zenón and Perdomo, bolero, a genre of Afro-Cuban origin spread throughout Latin America, takes on a unique and colourful dimension that speaks to our memory, our lives and our emotions. An exquisite and subtle duo, an immortal repertoire: once again jazz draws riches from the depths of popular music. Miguel Zenón, alto saxophone. Luis Perdomo, piano.

Part of the programme: 58th Barcelona International Jazz Festival. 58è Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona: 48 activities in Barcelona, from September 29 to December 23.
