"MURMURIS". Twelve Speculative Actions for Year Thirty

This November, MACBA will turn thirty. To celebrate, we will present a programme of live arts, music and performance that does not aim to compile the museum's institutional memory, but rather the hopes and desires that led to its creation in 1995. In other words, this is not about paying tribute to a cultural institution, but to the city's artistic scene that imagined this museum and made it possible. The programme invites us to reflect on the constitutive power of rumour: the seemingly trivial word of mouth found in any community that serves as a vehicle for sharing experiences and cultural references. This background murmur gives an aura of mystery to anonymous books and manuscripts found in bottles. It is the enigma surrounding disappeared artists, stolen works of art, unreleased records and censored films. Ultimately, it is the mythological power of stories that outlive us. The poetics of murmuring challenges the museum's deathly solemnity and instead appeals to the lightness of the unfinished, the undocumented or what has simply never been realised, opening spaces for imagination and conjecture.
