This double bill brings together two of the most representative operas of Italian verismo: Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni and Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo. The first premiered in Barcelona at the Gran Teatre del Liceu on 9 May 1891, while Pagliacci arrived there on 25 January 1895. Both bring extreme passions, jealousy, honour and violence to the stage in popular and apparently everyday settings. Led by María José Anglés.
