"Pau Casals a Puerto Rico. Un arxiu inèdit" Exhibition

27 October 2026 – 14 February 2027

Museu de la Música de Barcelona

Pau Casals (1876-1973), cellist, conductor, composer and committed advocate of peace, was one of the most renowned musical figures of the 20th century. He spent the last eighteen years of his life, between 1955 and 1973, mainly in Puerto Rico, where he carried out much of his artistic and intellectual activity. On the island he drove an ambitious cultural project with an international outlook, took part in founding new musical institutions, conducted orchestras, composed and maintained an intense public life. This exhibition presents, for the first time and to mark the 150th anniversary of his birth, the documentary record of this period. This period can be reconstructed today thanks to the collections held by the Fundació Pau Casals and the Fideicomiso Pablo Casals de Puerto Rico, which make it possible to follow its development through numerous documents. The archive becomes the common thread of the exhibition: it preserves not only the memory of events, but also the trace of the working processes, negotiations and personal and professional relationships that made many of these initiatives possible. Activity included in the events commemorating the Any Pau Casals.
