An approach to the genres of painting The fleeting nature of life and the passing of time are among the messages hidden behind compositions of inanimate objects, fruit and flowers: compositions worked with careful light, great command of colour and often remarkable attention to detail, offering us an image frozen in time. This is the still life genre, which reached its height throughout the 17th century in the Low Countries and the Iberian kingdoms but is still very much present in the art world today.
