'Quay and Trench. Stories of Barcelona and the Sea' Cultural Workshop *NEW*

5 October 2026 – 30 November 2026 · 10:00

Centre Cultural La Casa Elizalde, la Dreta de l'Eixample, Eixample

Teacher: Pere Cowley. The sea has been a place of encounter and arrival for the city. Travellers, spices and flavours, books and knowledge from distant places have all arrived at the port of Barcelona. Yet the sea and port have also been spaces of power, colonialism and conflict. From Barcelona's port sailed both ships carrying shackles towards Africa and modest fishing boats whose crews struggled to make a living. In this series of walks we will discuss this ambivalent sea and how it has helped shape the city we walk through today.
