'Ramesses III and the Harem Conspiracy' Lecture

Ramesses III, the last of the great Egyptian pharaohs, faced many problems during his reign. First, the attempted invasion by the Sea Peoples, a coalition that destabilised the whole of the Near East. But nothing compared with the conspiracy hatched inside his own harem to murder him. The papyrus recording the subsequent trial of the conspirators has survived: who were they? What punishments did they receive? Did they succeed in killing the pharaoh? Led by Isabel García Trócoli, graduate in Ancient History and Archaeology from the UB and holder of a master's in Egyptology.
