"Sant Andreu Jazz Band" Concert

The Sant Andreu Jazz Band will bring its 20th-anniversary celebrations to a close in December with its annual concert at Palau de la Música Catalana and another ambitious commissioned programme: a journey through the history of jazz big bands via 20 major ensembles, from pre-swing and swing —Fletcher Henderson, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller…— to names such as Maria Schneider, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra, passing through bebop and other aesthetic movements, with essential figures including Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie and Charles Mingus, among many others. A highly emotional concert, because this is a very special celebration: 20 years of a miracle conceived by Joan Chamorro, who also believes —as do we— that the SAJB is now playing “better than ever”.
