'Sumi-e. Beyond Appearance' Workshop *NEW*

Sumi-e painting is an Eastern Chinese-ink technique, an art with a simple, subtle structure that in some compositions approaches abstraction. Using spontaneous black-ink strokes, we will work on classic Sumi-e motifs; composition and aesthetics follow ideals of asymmetry, simplicity and the importance of empty space. Through varying intensities and ink washes, we will observe how each mark and movement results from expressing nature in a synthesised way with the minimum of forms and lines.
