Talk "Finding a Path through the Lyman-alpha Forest with Artificial Intelligence"

Led by Jonas Chaves Montero, researcher at IFAE (CV pending). The Lyman-alpha forest is a set of absorption lines that appear in the spectrum of light emitted by very distant quasars. These traces allow us to map the distribution of gas in the universe when it was only a fraction of its current age and to study some of cosmology's most fundamental problems, from dark energy to the nature of dark matter and the mass of subatomic particles. To extract this information, we combine numerical simulations of the universe with modern artificial-intelligence techniques capable of significantly accelerating data analysis. This talk will take place in the Sala d'Actes at Centre Cívic Guinardó and is intended exclusively for adults or people over sixteen who are accompanied.
