In 2026, fifty years since the death of Agatha Christie are being commemorated. She was one of the most influential authors in the history of mystery fiction. To mark the anniversary, this autumn we will devote a series to exploring the evolution of crime fiction, from the classic puzzles Christie made a benchmark to reinterpretations by contemporary women writers. We will discover how they have made Christie's legacy their own, transforming its rules, settings and characters to also speak about today's world without losing the pleasure of mystery or the essence of the genre. (Destino). Drawing on the classic mechanisms of mystery fiction, Deepa Anappara moves the puzzle to a marginalised neighbourhood in contemporary India. The investigation, conducted by a group of children, turns the search for truth into a perspective on social inequalities and children's vulnerability. Without sacrificing suspense, the author shows how the genre has evolved and turned mystery into a tool for exploring the fractures of the contemporary world.
