Sarrià tenor Marc Sala presents a new season of talks on operas currently being staged in the city. Whenever possible, the talks will feature guest artists and a short live musical performance. The last of the three operas making up Gaetano Donizetti's celebrated Tudor trilogy, Roberto Devereux takes us to 16th-century England, where personal passions and political intrigue become inseparable. Queen Elizabeth I, her favourite Roberto Devereux, Earl of Essex, and Sara, Duchess of Nottingham, form a love triangle that leads to a tragic outcome. This talk will explore the work's historical context, plot and musical keys to one of the great jewels of Romantic bel canto. Organised by: Marc Sala.
