Talk/Workshop "Motherhood at 40 and the Motherhood Crisis in Spain"
25 November 2026 · 18:30
Centre Cívic Casa Golferichs, la Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample, Eixample
Starting from Poquita sangre, Claudia Toledo's project, this talk-workshop offers a space for collective reflection on "late" motherhood as a symptom of profound change in Spanish society. Far from being a purely individual decision, becoming a mother after 40 is shaped by precariousness, the difficulty of balancing work and family life, and changes in models of life and desire. Using images from the exhibition and personal photographs that the group can bring (family photographs, archive images or mobile-phone pictures), the session proposes a brief rereading exercise: putting words to what cannot be seen, writing the "off-screen" or reinterpreting these images from the present. Image and experience intersect to think collectively about who can —or cannot— mother today, under what conditions and through which narratives. Led by photojournalist Gabo Caruso.
Part of the programme: 'Fotografia contemporània' Series. Cicle 'Fotografia contemporània: 6 activities in Barcelona, from October 1 to December 2. All free.
