'Tàpies, Portabella. Politics of Friendship' Exhibition

Museu Tàpies joins the programme marking the centenary of Pere Portabella's birth, curated by Jordi Balló, with the project entitled Tàpies, Portabella. Politics of Friendship. The project takes as its starting point the personal and professional relationship between the two creators, which extended from their youth during the early Franco period until Antoni Tàpies's death in 2012, and beyond. The case of Tàpies and Portabella, used here as the core of a wider network of cultural agents, offers a model for building political communities based not only on affinities but also, or above all, on the transformative power of criticism and dissent. By recognising heterogeneity and difference as organising principles, the project will explore both historical and present-day forms of alliances between art and politics expressed through different languages. It is a proposal by l'Institut de Derives Crítiques, a contemporary-thought platform that develops research projects, seminars and publications capable of generating dialogue between Tàpies's legacy and current currents of critical theory, political philosophy and material aesthetics.
