Teacher: Fausto Murillo. The history of music has not always been calm, solemn or polite. Behind many masterpieces lay rivalries, feuding divas, furious audiences, composers attacking one another in the press and premieres that turned into genuine cultural battles. We will focus on the great conflicts in music history: Handel and the London opera wars, the Mozart-Salieri myth, Lisztomania, Brahms versus Wagner, the scandal surrounding The Rite of Spring, Shostakovich during the Stalin era, Callas and Tebaldi, John Cage and silence…
