"The Guitar that Watched Barcelona Grow" Concert, by Joan Furió

27 November 2026 · 19:00

Sala Polivalent de Montbau, Montbau, Horta-Guinardó

Once again, the Sala Polivalent will host one of the concerts in the programme of the Cicle de Música Clàssica d'Horta-Guinardó, La guitarra que va veure créixer Barcelona, performed by Joan Furió. The classical guitar is one of the instruments most deeply rooted in the cultural identity of Barcelona and Catalonia. It has been witness and soundtrack to the transformation of our cities: from the walled Barcelona of Fernando Sor to the Modernista metropolis of the Eixample and Gaudí that inspired Albéniz, Tárrega and Mompou. This concert is conceived as a bridge across time. Through six strings, it invites the audience on an emotional journey through the dawn of our contemporary era. It is not just a classical recital, but an intimate experience in which the audience will recognise themselves in the melodies and stories of our land. To make the experience more immersive, the concert will be accompanied by brief explanations linking the works to the anecdotes, architecture and social changes of the period. Furió will perform works by Fernando Sor, Isaac Albéniz, Eduardo Sainz de la Maza and Francisco Tárrega, among others. Performed by Joan Furió
