8 December 2026 – 12 December 2026
Gran Teatre del Liceu, el Raval, Ciutat Vella
The magic of winter comes to the Gran Teatre del Liceu with The Nutcracker, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's immortal ballet that continues to captivate generations. When winter unfolds its magic and the cold turns into mystery, few works evoke the spirit of fantasy as intensely as Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. This year, the Gran Teatre del Liceu hosts the Badisches Staatsballett Karlsruhe, which presents a personal and refined reading of this universal classic. The show invites you on a journey through dreams, in which music and dance become bridges to a world of wonder and timeless beauty. Premiered in Saint Petersburg in 1892, based on Hoffmann's tale as adapted by Alexandre Dumas, The Nutcracker is a stage poem in which Christmas and fantasy intertwine. Tchaikovsky's score, rich in orchestral colour and unforgettable melodies, has turned the story of Clara and her little soldier into a world of sound that swings between the most intimate tenderness and jubilant outbursts, with moments as iconic as the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and the “Waltz of the Flowers”.
