'The Orchestra and Its Story: Berlioz, Liszt, Strauss and Mahler' Lecture
23 November 2026 · 18:00
CaixaForum Barcelona, la Font de la Guatlla, Sants-Montjuïc
During the Romantic period, the orchestra reached an unprecedented expressive dimension. Composers expanded their sound resources to build great emotional landscapes, portray characters and develop true musical dramas. New colours, dimensions and musical forms allowed composers such as Berlioz, Liszt, Strauss and Mahler to break the limits of instrumental music and venture into the realm of narrative, drama and human experience, taking the orchestral imagination to its most extraordinary heights. Given by Irene de Juan Bernabeu, musicologist, pianist and music communicator.
Part of the programme: 'Poetes de la música' Series. See the 4 activities in this programme in Barcelona, from November 2 to 30.
