The Spirit of an Era: Music by Narcisa Freixas and Pau Casals

To mark the centenary of the death of Sabadell-born Narcisa Freixas and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pau Casals, this concert offers a reappraisal of two essential figures in Catalan musical culture. On the one hand, Narcisa Freixas developed a singular career, marked by her dedication to teaching and to creating a repertoire for children and education, without giving up refined and deeply expressive writing. Her songs sensitively combine literary text and music, forming a direct yet elaborate language. The concert thus lets us hear a dialogue between two complementary voices of 20th-century Catalan musical heritage which, in both cases, are being rediscovered, and which initiatives like this one help to make a regular part of concert programmes.
