'The Women Will Come. 150 Years of Struggle on the Streets of Barcelona' Exhibition

The Women Will Come. 150 Years of Struggle on the Streets of Barcelona offers a feminist reading of the city's recent history through the perspectives of women writers, artists and activists who have lived there. From the 19th century to the present day, the exhibition brings together the literary, artistic and historical testimony of around eighty women from different periods who moved from the private sphere into public space, driving or documenting the most decisive social, cultural and political struggles of the last century and a half through different ideological and cultural perspectives, with literature and art as central tools for emancipation, resistance and transformation. From anarchists and labour activists at the end of the 19th century, through early 20th-century feminisms and the second waves of the 1970s, to contemporary movements. Well-known and unknown women; women who led the integration of women into public life and culture; women who worked to expand rights —including rights over their own bodies—; women who did not want to send their children to war and wanted to be able to feed them; women who wrote stories about women and others who bore witness to the…
