More often than we might think, the private actions of powerful people have had consequences for those who followed, obeyed or suffered under them, creating situations capable of altering the future of communities and nations. Did Rome cease to be a monarchy because of a rape? Was an empress originally a prostitute? Was Pere el Catòlic defeated at Muret because he had been out partying the night before? We will peer through the keyhole of the annals of history —curiosity is human— to find out.
